In Commercial II class this semester our project was to design a hotel. The hotel also housed a resturant and a spa. When starting the project I had to find a location for my hotel. I found an empty lot in California that was wooded, but also near the water way.  I then began creating a bubble diagram to figure out the placement of the hotel. After figuring out the location of the hotel; I began thinking of a concept. Below is an image of the Paradise Resort's lobby.

My design concept for the Paradise Resort was Symbols of Immortality. As I began developing my lobby I discovered a beautiful Butterfly to use for my design in my hotel’s lobby. The butterfly is composed of browns and purples. Its wings are composed of circular shapes and free flowing lines. The butterfly is a symbol of Immortality.

   For my Eternal Spa the design concept revolved around a white Peacock. The white peacock is used to be a shows a since of renewal and peacefulness, so visitors can relax and be at ease in the spa area.

For the Mystic Grill; I based my concept on a beautiful regal creature. The Creature is composed of blues, greens, and gold feathers; a Peacock. I chose a peacock because of how elegant the birds are.  In some countries the Peacock is thought to be Immortal. So while at the Paradise Resort; one can share the feeling of being immortal and forget the world as they enjoy their stay.  Below is a image of what my Resturant would look like at the Paradise Resort.

The Harmony House project for my Residential design II class I began working on picking out FF&E for the building. I first started thinking and looking through fabrics to go in my first floor sandwich shop. Since my overall concept is the Tree of Life I stuck to neutral browns and greens with orange  as my accent color. All my fabrics I selected were free flowing. The fabrics shown below are all from Kravet. For my table tops for the sandwich shop I chose to use 3-form to add interest. I am also placing 3-forms wovin wall as well.  The shop will contain sustainable bamboo flooring and low VOC paints throughout.

For my sandwich shop; I am creating a great space for people to come in and eat while allowing the kids to work and grow. I am having 5 large tables some booth seating; and a great architectual details such as a tree form seen below.

Concept statement

My concept statement for the Harmony house was the tree of life. So the kids that come in the house are always growing and expanding, but still remember were they came from.
Tree of life:
Connects and brings together everything on the planet
Sustainable elements
Tints, shades of greens/ browns which can be gender neutral

Project description

This semester in Residential Design II our project is to do develop a concept for the Harmony House. We had to design space for a sandwich shop, offices, bedrooms and everything in between. The Harmony house is also a Competition through The Bienenstock Furniture Library.  The Harmony House is for young run aways.

Commercial I project

In commercial 1 class this semester our project was to design a space for the American Heart Association and the Go Red clinic. The American heart association was located in Dallas, Texas and the client wanted to have a direct adjancy with the first Go Red Clinic in the US. Both buildings had to have ADA regulations throughout. The building has wall to floor windows that allows lots of  natural lighting to enter the buildings.
A few facts I researched when working on the project was how lighting impacted work habits, and how having onsite heart healty areas (such as gyms) proven to increase heath awarness.

A few facts

• Sunlight by way of large windows have shown to stimulate and influence job satisfaction
• Fitness programs have reduced employer healthcare costs by 22 to 55 percent. 
• Employees with access to facilities and equipment at work were 1.7 to 2.0 times more likely to meet physical activity recommendations through walking. 

Here is a image of my furnished floor plan. The one on the left is the Go Red Clinic and the American Heart Association is on the right. We were working with an exsisting adjacency. With all the windows in the building I placed the reseption area and the restrooms in the center of the building to give the views to the other offices etc. We also spaced planned both buildings.

This is a sketch up drawing of what my American Heart Association would look like. We used sketch up and then rendered the image through podium. On the walls of the reseption area is reclaimed wood that was took and pressed together and cut into panels which was cool and sustainable. I decided to add a dark red to the walls and columns to go with the Heart Association.

Residential Design Class

As a project this semester in Residential Design; I had a client project. For the client project the client's were Mark and Holly Woodward. The Woodwards currently live in High Point, N.C. Some of the services the couple wanted were to add a garage, bedroom, laundry room, and to expand the kitchen. The Woodwards wanted to design the entire home. Another thing the two wanted to add a master bathroom. The couple had a few items and furnishings they wanted to keep and to incorporate into the new design.

The Woodards had slightly different design styles than one another. Holly's design style consists of Mid Century and Modern/ Classical. Her design style is more femine and clean looking. Holly's husband's style was more modern with clean lines. A few of Holly's likes/ wants were high contrast space, white clean look paints, 70's inspired fabrics with bold prints. A few of Mark's likes consisted of warm gray colored walls and open shelving.
