Principles and Elements Class

Today in principles and elements class; I worked on a project that that contains a cube. This project is to help understand the golden rectangle, and the golden mean.  So far I have came up with a design that is proportional to the golden rectangle. My cube will be 4"X4" we could choose anywhere from 4 to 8".My cube is constructed using foam core board. The cube project for principles and elements has to have a design in which I have to create to go on every side of the cube using to golden rectangle. Also in our design I have to have use an triadic color scheme. The project also states the design has to be non objective.

How I was inspired by design over spring break

Over spring break I didnt really go anywhere. So the only thing I was inspired by would have to be television. I watched some design related shows. I watched house renovating and people redoing there rooms in their house to get it sold. This design show made me want to paint my room a different color, but instead I found myself rearranging it insead. I did manage to go to the mall and places of that nature. While at the mall I looked at clothing and things. All of which had different designs and so forth. Even the store lay out was designed in a certain way. So I was exposed to design without noticing this week of spring break.

Why green and sustainable design?

Green and sustainable design is becoming increasingly important in our industry. Due to needs of sustainable design this trend will continue to grow. Eco friendly design is a way in which designers reach out to people with the same knowleged, and understanding of green materials. Also by educating new clients about benefits of green design. Green materials used in housing is beneifical by many different means. Green materials are benefical by being heatlhier and are less costly to use by the owner.

Auto CAD Drawing of Chest of Drawers

In Auto CAD class we made the chest shown above. This drawing was made by using CAD. First we started out by drawing a rectangle that was 55x40. Then I started at the top of the drawing by creating the angles using the arc command with a radius of 3/4 and using offset to create the lines through out the drawing. Each drawer was made by offseting lines by 1". Every drawer was different in size ranging from the top drawer being 9 1/4" to 10 1/2" at the and bottom drawer. In this drawing I used the circle command to make the chests hardware. This was done by creating a circle that had a diamiter of 2. After creating the first circle I offset the circle by 1 1/2 to create the inside. I then used the copy command to make all the other drawer pulls. The bottom of the drawing an ogee foot. The ogee foot was hard for me being new to auto cad; so my instructor walked us through how to construct the foot. This foot was complicated for me. I used a range of different circles to make the arcs shown above in the drawing and we trimmed and out the unwanted areas.
